we grade lower than most
Applying one standard to every compound produces an uncomfortable distribution. Preclinical volume — however large — does not substitute for a controlled human trial, so several compounds with enormous reputations and hundreds of rodent papers land in the lower half of this board. That is the standard working correctly, not a judgement about whether the mechanism is real.
